NSA's Linguists, known as Multidisciplined Language Analysts (MDLAs), contribute to SIGINT by analyzing, transcribing, and translating foreign language materials. Depending on skill and experience, MDLAs are considered for the Language Analysis Development Program (LADP) or direct-hire analytic roles, with 4–5 operational tours and formal training.
