Laboratory Supervisor

Location: BSWH Medical Center, Waxahachie, TX

Department: Laboratory

Shift: Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise laboratory staff and oversee routine lab activities, ensuring adequate staffing and timely, quality-standard test results.
• Develop and implement schedules, assign tasks, and monitor personnel performance.
• Assist with hiring, training, evaluations, payroll, and disciplinary actions.
• Contribute to the development of laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs.
• Maintain inventory systems to guarantee supplies are available in proper quantities.
• Monitor quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance, and corrective actions.
• Prepare and oversee annual budget monitoring.

• In-depth knowledge of laboratory regulations, protocols, and procedures.
• Strong statistical and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency with laboratory protocols and safety/infection‑control standards.
• Team‑oriented approach and effective judgment in task allocation.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office, scheduling and payroll systems, and electronic medical records.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

• ASCP certification or an equivalent credential as an MLS generalist.
• Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
• CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission accreditation knowledge highly desired.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
• Certification/License: One of the following – ASCP-BB, ASCP-C, ASCP-CG, ASCP-CT, ASCP-H, ASCP-HT, ASCP-HTL, ASCP-M, ASCP-MB, ASCP-SBB, ASCP-SC, ASCP-SH, ASCP-SM, CHS-ABHI, CHT-ABHI, CLS, MLS, MT, SCT, SCYM, SMB.
