Description
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of a research laboratory. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient lab function, maintaining standardized processes, supporting compliance and safety requirements, and coordinating operational needs across lab personnel. The position is primarily operational and administrative, with a focus on enabling a well‑organized and compliant research environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to‑day laboratory operations to ensure efficient workflow and organization
- Maintain laboratory inventory, order supplies, and manage vendor relationships
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, service contracts, and repairs
- Manage shared equipment scheduling and optimize lab space utilization
- Ensure overall lab organization and readiness for ongoing research activities
- Establish and maintain standardized workflows, protocols, and documentation practices
- Ensure consistency in sample labeling, storage, and record‑keeping
- Monitor lab processes to maintain organization and operational efficiency
- Identify and address operational gaps to improve workflow and productivity
- Ensure adherence to institutional biosafety, chemical safety, and regulatory guidelines
- Maintain safety records, training documentation, and compliance requirements
- Oversee proper handling and storage of biological samples and reagents
- Manage and maintain lab‑related protocols (e.g., IBC, IRB, ESCRO as applicable), ensuring timely renewals and that all documentation remains current and up to date
- Proactively track protocol timelines and coordinate submissions to ensure uninterrupted compliance
- Coordinate onboarding logistics for new lab members, including access, safety training, and required documentation
- Serve as a point of contact for lab operations and administrative coordination
- Support a structured, organized, and collaborative lab environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field, or combination of education and relevant clinical laboratory experience
- 3+ years experience in laboratory setting (academic). Supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with research compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g., IBC, IRB) preferred.
- Experience managing laboratory operations in an academic or translational research setting preferred.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $59,267 - $88,900 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
