This position is located at a hospital near Danville, PA and focuses on the leadership of the laboratory during the evening shift.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily operational activities of the hospital laboratory, both technical and non‑technical.
• Effectively manage departmental staffing and monitor production schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime, adjusting as needed.
• Directly supervise, train and mentor laboratory team members and take ownership and responsibility for all departmental staff.
• Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides market‑leading service levels, meeting client needs and corporate service metrics for turnaround time.
• Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with the Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, discipline directors, laboratory directors or corporate operations.
• Ensure laboratory compliance with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, ISO, etc.) related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct.
• Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods.
• Recruit, hire, manage performance, train and develop staff.
• Supervise positions within the department to achieve quality, productivity and meet budgetary goals.
• Maintain effective communication with leadership, clients, sales, corporate operations and inter‑departmental staff.
• Conduct departmental meetings and ensure appropriate communication.
• Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action.
• Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned department for laboratory testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related life science field (required).
• Medical Laboratory Science accreditation education (NACCLS) (required).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in a clinical diagnostics laboratory (required).
• ASCP, MLS, MS certification or equivalent (required).
• Prior supervisory experience managing several direct reports.
• Experience in an acute setting is preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, AABB, TJC and relevant state regulations.
• Understanding of laboratory operations and policies and procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
• Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment.
• Physical ability to handle the job requirements.
