Laboratory Manager - Southfield, MI, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Overall responsibility for planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical/operational activities and staff in the laboratory. Responsible for operating the lab with highest quality, safety and integrity in an efficient and economical manner.
Pay Range
$88,550+ per year. Salary offers based on skills, training, experience, education, certifications and market factors. Successful candidates may receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
- Plan, assign and direct work in the laboratory; serve as liaison with other areas.
- Mentor and support direct reports; identify and implement training programs.
- Define, coordinate and monitor QA programs; supervise Quality Coordinator; ensure compliance and keep QC reports current.
- Oversee staffing, interview, hire, train and provide performance evaluation and corrective counseling.
- Identify future needs in staff, equipment, facilities; submit procurement documentation.
- Review test performance, drive process improvements and project management; prepare required reports.
- Manage test database; ensure SOPs and databases accurately reflect current processes.
- Coordinate R&D activities and participate in committees.
- Develop annual budget and manage department costs to adhere to budget.
- Resolve client issues through interaction.
- Define, coordinate and monitor EHS programs and supervise Safety Coordinator.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in safe, functional and sanitary condition.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use PPE, engineering controls and work practice controls as directed.
- Participate in regulatory inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum 8 years laboratory experience with at least 4 years direct supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Lift and carry objects up to 10 pounds frequently; 11–25 pounds occasionally; 36–50 pounds seldom; over 50 pounds requires assistance.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
- Use manual and automated pipettes and instruments requiring dexterity.
Knowledge
- Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
Skills
- Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills.
- Detail‑oriented, work independently, prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with employees, co‑workers and clients.
- Confidential handling of client information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field (Preferred).
- Master’s Degree (Preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
- ASCP Certification (Preferred).
- Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license (Required).
