The Laboratory Manager plays a vital role in the overall safety of the laboratory and is responsible for managing daily operations of the lab. The laboratory manager takes responsibilities for all aspects of the lab including instruments, equipment, users of the lab and supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Help design and implement new laboratory operations.
  • Plan, assign, and direct workflow in the laboratory.
  • Acquire and maintain all necessary state and federal licenses including CAP accreditation.
  • Mentor and support departmental supervisors, ensuring they receive training in supervisory skill development; identify and implement training programs as necessary.
  • Define, coordinate, and monitor quality assurance programs; ensure quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date; oversee plans and preparations for inspections.
  • Oversee staffing of all personnel in the laboratory; maintain quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and management.
  • Identify future needs in terms of staff, equipment, and facilities; submit appropriate documentation for procurement.
  • Review test performance, drive process and project management, and prepare and submit required reports to meet established deadlines.
  • Develop the annual budget and manage departmental costs and resources to adhere to the budget.
  • Resolve problems through interaction with clients either by phone calls or other means of communication.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have experience with Cytology, Histology, Genetics and/or Molecular Microbiology preferably in Women’s Health.
  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in medical technology, chemical or biological science.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of laboratory experience, including at least 5+ years managing an anatomic and clinical pathology laboratory that included molecular microbiology.
  • Current ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist, Laboratory Scientist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist or equivalent. Molecular Biology (MB) certification by ASCP is not required but would be highly desirable.
