Position Summary
A Research Support Specialist position isavailable in the laboratory of Dr. William K.M. Lai, in the Department of Biochemistry at the Jacobs School of Medicineand Biomedical Sciences for a scientist who wants torun a laboratory as well as work in one. The role pairs hands-onresearch with day-to-day management of a genomics lab studying theorganization of chromatin and the protein–DNA interactions thatcontrol gene expression. The research pairs high-resolution genomicassays (e.g., ChIP-exo, MNase-seq, and ATAC-seq) with computationalmethod development for interpreting the resulting data at scale,using various model systems (i.e., Saccharomycescerevisiae, human cell lines) and in vitro proteinbinding. The successful candidate will own the operational healthof the lab and will train and mentor undergraduate and graduateresearchers at the bench. The Lai lab provides a collegialenvironment and has trained a diverse group of people over theyears. We welcome scientists from all backgrounds and we mentortrainees at all levels.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, genomics, computational biology or a related field and two (2)years of full-time research experience; OR Bachelor's degree in oneof the above fields and four (4) years of full-time researchexperience.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, genomics or computational biology. Experience managing a research laboratory or shared research facility, including purchasing, equipment maintenance and safety compliance; experience training and supervising junior researchers; experience with next-generation sequencing library preparation and/or analysis of genomic sequencing data; proficiency with Python, R or the Unix command line.
Physical Demands
The individual must physically be in the laboratory setting. The majority of the tasks will be benchwork with some computationalwork.
Salary Range
$45,000 - $65,000
