Experienced L&D RN Opportunity in Arizona’s White Mountains
We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) for an opportunity with Summit Healthcare in Show Low, Arizona .
This position is ideal for a confident L&D nurse with strong assessment skills, high-risk obstetric experience, fetal monitoring proficiency, and the ability to respond effectively to OB emergencies.
The department offers a close-knit, collaborative environment with typical 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratios and approximately 830 births per year .
Labor & Delivery Unit
7 Labor & Delivery beds
2 Triage beds
Approximately 830 births annually
Typical RN ratio of 1:2
Respiratory Therapist available on the unit 24/7
24/7 in-house pharmacy
Support staff includes OB Scrub Techs, Patient Care Technicians and Health Unit Secretaries
Nurse Manager provides clinical support when needed
What We're Looking For
This position requires an experienced L&D nurse who can work confidently and independently.
Because an OB provider and Neonatologist are not continuously in-house , nurses must have excellent assessment skills and be able to recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies until the provider arrives.
Candidates must be comfortable caring for high-risk obstetric patients and responding appropriately to changes in maternal or fetal condition.
Required Experience & Skills
3+ years of recent Labor & Delivery experience strongly preferred
Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
C-section experience required
High-risk OB clinical experience
Strong maternal and fetal assessment skills
Proficient in fetal monitoring
Must recognize fetal distress and know the appropriate interventions/actions to take
Experience caring for patients with pre-eclampsia
Ability to recognize and respond to OB emergencies
Must be able to function in both Labor & Delivery and couplet care
Strong critical-thinking and independent decision-making skills
Must be comfortable working in an environment where the OB provider may need to be called in for emergencies
Required Certifications
BLS
ACLS
NRP
Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Floating: May float to other hospital units, typically Med/Surg, based on hospital needs.
Couplet Care: Must be comfortable providing couplet care when needed. LDRP rooms may be utilized for couplet care depending on census.
