Junior Data Analyst – Azure DatabricksThe North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking a Junior Data Analyst with hands-on experience in Azure Databricks, PySpark, and Power BI. The selected candidate will support enterprise data initiatives through building aggregations, dashboards, and reporting solutions. This role requires strong analytical capabilities and the ability to translate business needs into scalable, data-driven solutions.
You will work closely with technical leads, data engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver insight-driven data products and reporting tools.Key Responsibilities:Perform data analysis, data mapping, and data quality assurance using Azure Databricks and related toolsWrite efficient Spark SQL and Python (PySpark) code to analyze large datasetsCollaborate with data engineers and business users to define, design, and implement data models and visualizationsDesign and develop Power BI and Databricks native dashboards to present actionable insightsDevelop Gold-layer data products to support dashboards, APIs, and user interfacesCreate and maintain documentation for data models, pipelines, dashboards, and reporting workflowsApply dimensional modeling, entity-relationship modeling, and data normalization/denormalizationConduct statistical analyses and use ML algorithms to uncover trends and support decision-making (preferred)Support project planning, design discussions, and change management documentationMinimum Qualifications:3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, especially in enterprise environmentsProficient in SQL and Python (PySpark) for querying, transforming, and analyzing dataExperience with data modeling techniques: dimensional modeling, ER modeling, Data Vault, etc.Ability to collaborate across teams and translate complex data requirements into technical and visual solutionsStrong verbal and written communication skillsPreferred Qualifications:Experience with data science concepts, including machine learning algorithms and statistical analysisDatabricks Data Analyst Associate CertificationBackground in state/local government or public sector analytics projects
