Power Electronics Engineer For VidarITT is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer for VIDAR, a breakthrough in industrial motors. VIDAR is a patented motor with embedded variable speed intelligence built for harsh industrial environments. For decades, variable speed drives have been bulky, expensive, and hard to install, which stalled adoption at just 15 percent of rotating equipment. VIDAR changes that.

It installs as easily as replacing a motor, cuts total installed cost by up to 50 percent compared to a VFD, and opens a $6B market with no direct competitor targeting industrial environments. The Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design and validation of new cutting-edge motor-drive topologies. This position will assist in the development of converter and motor control algorithms development for motor-drives. S/he will coordinate with internal teams, external manufacturing partners, universities, and 3rd party certification agencies to achieve program goals.Essential ResponsibilitiesPerform system level design and integration of power electronic circuitsDesign, implement, and troubleshoot control systems for power electronic products such as converters and inverters for motor driven applicationsPerform PCB (gate driver, gate drive power supply, etc.) design review and testDesign, implement, and test advanced digital control algorithms, digital filters and the general control of power electronics systemsCreate test procedures to verify hardware & firmware designsEnsure products meet safety and agency requirements (ex. UL, IEC)Perform system level simulations to evaluate design tradeoffs, extract power converter and passives losses.

Develop simulation models targeted for control design using PLECS and C-code, previous experience with other tools such as MATLAB/Simulink/PSIM/ is desiredSupport the development and validation of power electronics hardware through embedded software and firmware activities, including implementation of control and modulation strategiesDevelop embedded C code for real-time control of power converters and motor drives, including algorithm integration and system bring-upSupport the design and implementation of FPGA-based control functions using VHDL to support high-speed and deterministic control requirementsDevelop scripts and tools (e.g., Python) for data acquisition, analysis, and post-processing to support testing and validation activitiesInteract with customers and project partners relating to program goalsMaintain organizational standards of quality and performancePrepare technical reports on results and design decisionsTravel < 20%Position RequirementsM.S. in Electrical Engineering (PhD preferred), with specialization in Power Electronics or related fieldsStrong Experience in power converter topologies, including AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC, and AC/AC systems; experience with motor-drive is highly desiredProven hands-on experience in hardware development and validation including PCB prototyping, lab testing (O'scope, multimeters), debugging and root-cause failure analysisSolid background in power converter control, including modulation techniques and control algorithm development and implementation.Experience with real-time embedded software development for control systems, C/C++Proficiency with simulation and modeling tools such as PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, or equivalentExperience in mixed-signal PCB design for power electronics applications (ADC/DAC integration, signal integrity considerations), using tools such as Altium Designer or similarUnderstanding of parasitic effects and their impact on switching behavior and commutation performance in power semiconductorsFamiliarity with industry standards and safety requirements for power electronics systemsExperience with Wide Band Gap (WBG) semiconductors (SiC, GaN) is highly desirableExposure to FPGA-based control implementations and VHDL programming is a plusProactive and results-drivenStrong analytical mindset with a proactive, hands-on approach; ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced R&D environmentEqual Pay Act StatementWe aim to pay our 'ITT'ers' fairly and competitively in the locations that they live and work. Pay-for-performance is a principle that we believe in, and employees are rewarded based not only on 'what' they accomplish, but also on 'how' they reflect ITT's values. ITT offers a competitive salary and robust total rewards package, such as health insurance, 401(k), short and long-term disability, paid time off, growth and developmental opportunities, and other incentive compensation programs.

Specific benefits are dependent upon whether or not the position is part of a collective-bargaining agreement. The salary offered to a candidate is based several factors such as candidate experience and qualifications, location, as well as market and business considerations.Equal Pay Act Range$99,900 - $149,100 annually, plus annual incentive plan and benefits.
