Ironworker JourneyTake your next step with Saulsbury Industries!Location: Pecos, TXType: Full timeGeneral Information/Job SummaryBasic functionResponsible for laying out and fabricating structural steel and sheet metal in order to build metal structures. Welds and cuts steel, and interprets blueprints, The Welder is responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and welds finishing operations to manufacture product to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. They are responsible for knowing and following appropriate safety procedures in order to make safety checks and conduct safety meetings, and for coordinating with operating personnel regarding permits and clearances to initiate maintenance and repair activities.NOTE: The examples of work for this position are for illustrative purposes only.

Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.ResponsibilitiesBuild and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings, bridges, and other structures.Repair older infrastructure.Make, weld, and cut structural metal in fabricating shops.Erect steel frames.Direct operation of cranes to move structural steel, reinforcing bars, and other materials onto and around the construction site.Connect steel columns, beams, and girders.Drill holes into steel for bolts.Number steel according to assembly instructions.Unload and stack steel.Attach cables to steel and then to the crane.Hoist steel into place in the framework.Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.Work with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment.Bolt or weld piece into place.Cut bars with metal shears and torches.Install stairs, handrails, or curtain walls.Make sure all pieces are fitted properly and complete repairs as necessary.Other duties as assignedQualificationsFour (4) years of experience in work involving a variety of layout, installation, and maintenance tasksHave a high school diploma or GED equivalentPossess valid drivers' license with a good driving recordSafety RequirementsOn a continual basis, promotes an awareness of environmental, health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment and ensures compliance with all accompany policiesAbility to pass drug test as mandated by the Saulsbury Industries and Department of Transportation anti-drug programMust attend and successfully complete Saulsbury Industries safety training educationAttends safety meetings and specialty training as directed by managementAttends various training classes as may be assigned by managementPerform related duties and responsibilities as requiredAbility to take needed safety precautions in performing the workKnowledge of basic rigging safety practices.Physical RequirementsManual and finger dexterityEye-hand coordinationDepth perceptionAbility to see things clearly that are beyond arm's reach (far visual acuity)Ability to see small detailAbility to lift and carry up to 50 poundsAbility to climb 30-foot ladders without restingAbility to maintain balance on catwalks and narrow work spacesAbility to stand for long periods of timeAbility to reach above head while sitting or standingAbility to reach below knees while standingAbility to stoop or kneelAbility to work 50 or more hours each weekCognitive RequirementsOn a continual basis, promotes an awareness of environmental, health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment and ensures compliance with all accompany policies.Ability to follow appropriate safety procedures in order to make safety checks and conducts safety meetingsReading comprehension skill to understand work orders, written instructions, technical manuals, safety procedures, and parts catalogsMathematical skill to perform basic calculationsOral communication skills for routine and technical information exchange with coworkers, supervisors, or other personnelSkill in using hand signalsAbility to evaluate work conditions and quality, and to make decisions regarding course of actions (decision making)Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functionsTemperament AttributesInterpersonal skills to cooperate with co-workers, supervisors, and members of other craftsAbility to work under time pressureAbility to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situationsAbility to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functionsAbility to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directionsAbility to take needed safety precautions in performing the workResponds to request to work overtime when conditions warrant and directed by managementWork EnvironmentEmployees in this position must be able to perform under the following conditions:Awkward or confining work spacesHigh placesOut-of-door environmentNoisy EnvironmentDirty EnvironmentAir contamination (dust, fumes, etc.)Saulsbury is an equal opportunity employer.
