About this Role

The Investments Director is an integral part of the Impact Investment Group, which is focused on making investments that generate equitable economic prosperity and promote community health throughout the country. This position plays a critical role in sourcing and executing impact investments while managing portfolio companies and supporting the development of the investments team’s infrastructure. The Director will be responsible for reporting to stakeholders, assisting in the management of fund-level performance, and working closely with portfolio companies across the country to generate measurable impact and rationalized investment returns. The Investments Director reports to the Managing Director of Investments and can be located in the Arlington, Virginia, California, or New York City metropolitan area offices, or work 100% remotely. This position offers flexibility in work location while requiring close collaboration with team members and external stakeholders across multiple geographies.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify potential investment opportunities using own network and knowledge base
  • Screen new investment opportunities to assess their fit with the fund’s mandate
  • Analyze the competitive landscape for potential investments
  • Work with and oversee junior-level professionals on the team
  • Support and lead the due diligence process with potential investments
  • Develop financial models to assess cash requirements for key milestones within potential investments and current portfolio companies
  • Track progress of portfolio companies post investment
  • Support executives in their board responsibilities and, over time, assume select board responsibilities
  • Work on investment updates and valuations for quarterly and annual reports
  • Coordinate due diligence processes
  • Support and lead negotiation of terms for new investments
  • Contribute to knowledge management and translation of project and programmatic data
  • Track fund deal flow and coordinate reports and summaries for weekly team meetings
  • Compile impact data for portfolio companies
  • Provide organizational support as needed

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, plus a graduate degree or relevant level of experience
  • 5+ years of work experience in a position providing extensive exposure to investing into companies
  • Experience developing financial models and conducting sensitivity analysis
  • Investment experience in the health, food, co-op, or social entrepreneurship sectors
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and negotiating complex transactions and balancing the programmatic needs of community-based organizations with sound underwriting judgment and risk mitigation
  • Familiarity with one or more of Capital Impact Partners’ five core geographies
  • Ability to generate deal flow using own contacts and experience
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience in impact investing
  • Exposure to boards of directors as a member or observer
  • Experience leading the due diligence process for potential investments
  • Ability to interact with bankers, investors, and others
  • Highly skilled in writing investment summaries, investment memos, preparing PowerPoint presentations, and related word-processing and spreadsheet skills
  • Comfort working in an environment with little supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and organized in working independently, as well as in interacting with team members and external stakeholders (investors, companies, co-investors, etc.)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Benefits

  • Salary range of $142,244 – $190,000 with potential eligibility for annual discretionary incentive
  • Structure A: $142,244 – $170,000 for all locations except Structures B and C
  • Structure B: $158,048 – $180,000 for Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Virginia (DMV); non-Bay Area California markets; and Massachusetts
  • Structure C: $173,379 – $190,000 for New York; New Jersey; and the California Bay Area
  • Flexible work location options (office in Arlington, VA; California; New York City; or 100% remote)
