Interpretive Aide

Looking to begin or continue your career in resource interpretation and education? Join our team as an Interpretive Aide! Interpretive Aides serve as the face of the Interpretive Services unit and the Department of Fish and Wildlife at a variety of public events including education programs, teacher workshops, and community events. Aides lead public and school tours at Nimbus Hatchery and staff the Visitor Center to educate the public about salmon and other wildlife on the American River and develop materials such as videos, flyers, and brochures to educate and inform a variety of audiences. Aides travel to other sites in the region to provide public education and guided tours and to staff outreach booths. In all activities, aides seek to support and advance CDFW's mission and to integrate justice, equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion (JEDAI) into programming, materials, and messaging.

Under the supervision of the Fish & Wildlife Interpreter III, the incumbent will assist with the programs and projects of the Interpretive Services unit including staffing and maintaining the Nimbus Hatchery Visitor Center; participating in community outreach events; assisting in hatchery operations and data collection; and maintaining public amenities on select California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) lands, utilizing funding from the federal Sportfish Restoration Act grant and Lands Pass funds. Incumbent may be under the lead of Fish and Wildlife Interpreter II staff.

The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063. Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application. Applicants must submit verification of CalWORKs eligibility, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligibility or a copy of the most recent aid check stub. Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program. If CalWORKs verification is not submitted with the application, it will not be processed as CalWORKs eligible. Participation by a public assistance recipient is voluntary and in no event shall any person be subject to sanctions, through loss of benefits or eligibility, for not applying for, accepting, or continuing in a seasonal or entry level non-testing classification opening.
