International Tax Manager / Senior Tax Manager
Lead high-stakes cross-border engagements at a 60-year-old, independently owned advisory firm that punches well above its weight - serving global public companies, multinational private businesses, and ultra-high-net-worth families from its Chicagoland office.
What you will do
- Serve as the primary technical advisor on complex outbound and inbound tax matters including GILTI, FDII, foreign tax credits, IC-DISC, and Section 367 transfers
- Review, finalize, and sign off on federal, state, and cross-border filings for C corps, S corps, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals
- Direct FBAR disclosures and international information returns (Forms 5471, 5472, 8858, 1120-F) from workflow design through delivery
- Partner with Directors and Partners on entity structuring, M&A advisory, repatriation planning, and transactional consulting to reduce global tax exposure
- Monitor TCJA developments, OECD Pillar Two, and foreign tax reforms; translate emerging rules into clear, actionable guidance for clients and engagement teams
- Coach and formally evaluate associate and senior staff; contribute to internal training programs and talent retention initiatives
- Identify cross-selling opportunities and participate in new business proposals to support continued growth of the International Tax Practice
What you need
- Active CPA license or J.D. required for sign-off authority
- 5 to 7 plus years of U.S. international tax experience in public accounting for the Manager level or 7 to 10 plus years for the Senior Manager level
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with international compliance forms (5471, 5472, 8858, FBAR) and planning concepts (GILTI, FDII, FTCs, transfer pricing awareness)
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and supervise professional staff through full engagement lifecycles
Nice to have
- Master's in Taxation (MST) or LL.M. in Taxation
- Experience with IRS Offshore Voluntary Disclosure, Streamlined Procedures, or expat compliance (Forms 1040-NR, 2555)
- Proficiency with CCH Axcess, GoSystem, or comparable enterprise tax platform
- Exposure to FATCA analysis, E&P calculations, or permanent establishment risk assessments
