Internal Medicine Residency Program Director

Location: San Francisco, California. Join Kaiser Permanente Northern California as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, with a minimum of 50% administrative time.

Program Overview

Established in 1954, the residency program trains internists for primary care, subspecialty medicine, and hospital medicine. The program serves 45 residents and 2 chief residents. Each intern class includes 7 preliminary interns, 10 categorical interns, and 2 residents in the Internal Medicine/Master's in Public Health track. The program maintains multiple ACGME-accredited fellowships and one‑year fellowships in various specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote an innovative, inclusive medical education environment that integrates clinical experience and evidence‑based practice.
  • Oversee program faculty and ensure adherence to ACGME accreditation requirements.
  • Mentor junior faculty and residents.
  • Assist in oversight of ACGME fellowship programs.
  • Recruit, select, supervise, evaluate, advance, and counsel residents.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of GME teaching and/or administrative experience as Program Director, Associate Program Director, or Core Faculty.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence, scholarly activity, and teaching ability.
  • Passion for medical education and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Experience in medical education and program development.
