Position Summary
The Part-Time Internist provides high-quality medical care to patients in a state-operated hospital setting. This role is responsible for conducting medical evaluations, coordinating patient care with interdisciplinary staff, and ensuring documentation and clinical practices meet professional and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient care consistent with professional medical standards, including accurate and timely documentation.
- Coordinate treatment and services with other healthcare practitioners and staff.
- Adhere to hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in patient, family, and staff education as appropriate.
- Maintain effective communication and demonstrate professionalism and empathy during patient interactions.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited program.
- Board certification in Internal Medicine (or Family Practice, if applicable).
- Active license to practice medicine in the State of Indiana.
- Valid Indiana Controlled Substance Registration and DEA credentials.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Position is performed within a state-operated hospital facility.
- May require walking, standing, bending, and similar physical activities as part of regular duties.
Additional Notes
- This is a contract, part‑time position and may involve limited supervisory responsibilities depending on agency needs.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Skill Required / Desired Amount of Experience
- Doctoral degree in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited program. Required
- Board certification in Internal Medicine (or Family Practice, if applicable). Required
- Active, unencumbered license to practice internal medicine in the State of Indiana. Required
- Valid Indiana Controlled Substance Registration and DEA credentials. Required
- CPR Certification. Required
- Cerner EMR exp. preferred, other EMR experience accepted. Required
- Experience with adult population, including geriatrics, as well as adolescents age 12 and older. Required
- Prior exp. collaborating with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, etc. Highly desired
- Prior experience in a state hospital setting. Highly desired
