Job Requirements

Internal Medicine Residency Program Faculty

• Precepts the residents four (4) half (1/2) day sessions per week in the resident clinic;
• Monitors and provides care to patients;
• Prescribes or administers medication, therapy and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease or injury;
• Analyzes records, reports and test results to diagnose patient’s medical condition;
• Interacts with patient to gather additional history and information about medical condition;
• Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patient;
• Provides specific treatments and/or performs operations to treat patient medical conditions;
• Evaluates patient and records applicable notes about patient’s condition for purposes of serving as a record of treatment and/or making a possible referral to another member of the health care professional team;
• Liaisons with other medical and non-medical staff at the practicing locations to ensure quality patient treatment;
• Performs surgical procedures and operations as appropriate and within Physician’s scope of practice and qualifications;
• Completes appropriate documentation of patient care services in accordance with applicable law and regulations and the System’s policies and procedures governing patient medical records;
• Completes appropriate documentation to support professional billing for these clinical services in accordance with applicable law and regulations and System’s policies and procedures;
• Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards including but not limited to maintaining the confidentiality of patients’ protected health information, in the performance of Physician’s clinical duties;
• Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff;
• Ensures the residents learn to provide the highest quality of care with compassion and with the engagement of other health care professionals, family members, and the community;
• Serves as a role model of professionalism and life‑long learning;
• Demonstrates commitment to the delivery of safe, quality, cost‑effective, patient‑centered care;
• Does formal and informal evaluations of the residents;
• Oversees ambulatory didactic curriculum and proctors didactic sessions for the residents;
• Participates in scholarly activities with the residents;
• Serves as a mentor and advisor to the residents;
• Assists with the development and periodic review of rotation‑specific and program‑specific goals and objectives;
• Assists with the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum;
• Assists in the collection and reporting to residents, staff, and other Faculty on individual and practice productivity, financial performance, and clinical quality;
• Assists with the interview and selection of residents to the program;
• Engages in Faculty Development designed to enhance clinical skills;
• Participates as a member of the Clinical Competency Committee;
• Participates in Hospital Committees and attends Graduate Medical Education meetings as deemed by the DIO and GME Director;

Qualifications

Work Experience

• Possesses and maintains current license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland required.
• Possesses and maintains current Board Certification within practicing specialty required of Internal Medicine.
• Possesses and maintains current DEA or similar Narcotics and Controlled Substances Certification required.
• Possesses and maintains, if applicable, appropriate clinical privileges at a minimum of one UMMS affiliated acute care facility.
• Demonstrates meeting minimum CME requirements for licensure and board certification.
• Demonstrates appropriate qualifications and experience to perform the duties required of this position.
