Truity Partners is partnering with a higher education organization to identify an experienced Interim Payroll Manager. This individual will oversee day-to-day payroll operations, supervise a small payroll team, and ensure accurate and timely processing of both biweekly and monthly payrolls.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of biweekly and monthly payrolls.
• Supervise and support a team of two payroll professionals.
• Manage in-house payroll processing using Lawson.
• Partner closely with the Payroll Analyst and other internal stakeholders to maintain payroll continuity.
• Quickly learn existing payroll processes, systems, and procedures with support from the current team.
• Troubleshoot payroll issues and ensure compliance with applicable payroll regulations.
• Maintain accurate payroll records, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Help identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.

Ideal Qualifications

• Previous Payroll Manager or senior-level payroll leadership experience.
• Strong hands-on experience managing in-house payroll processing.
• Lawson payroll experience strongly preferred.
• Experience overseeing multiple payroll cycles, including biweekly and monthly payrolls.
• Proven ability to supervise, train, and support payroll staff.
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance, taxes, deductions, and reconciliations.
• Ability to step into an interim role quickly with limited onboarding time.
• Workday experience is a plus , but not required.
• Higher education or nonprofit payroll experience is a plus. xhqgsiq
• Must be able to work a hybrid schedule with regular onsite presence in downtown Chicago.
