Live Green Connecticut is a statewide nonprofit organization working to create healthier, more sustainable and resilient communities through practical solutions, community partnerships, education and stakeholder engagement.

For nearly 20 years, we have brought together municipalities, businesses, nonprofits, community leaders and residents around sustainability initiatives including clean energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, municipal EV readiness, community engagement and public events.

Live Green Connecticut is entering an exciting growth phase, and we are looking for a collaborative, highly organized leader to help strengthen our programs, partnerships, funding and statewide impact.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an energetic and entrepreneurial Interim Executive Director to provide day-to-day operational and program leadership.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys bringing people together, developing partnerships, leading teams, organizing initiatives and events, developing funding opportunities and turning ideas into measurable results.

The Interim Executive Director reports to the Board President and has responsibility for day-to-day operational and program decisions within policies, priorities and budgets established by the Board.

During the transition, the Interim Executive Director will work closely with the Board President and progressively assume greater independent responsibility for organizational leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership

Provide leadership and oversight for our energy efficiency initiative

  • Supervise and provide direction to the three-person implementation team
  • Lead weekly team meetings
  • Ensure goals, timelines, funder commitments and deliverables are achieved
  • Track progress, identify obstacles, assign responsibilities and follow up
  • Maintain relationships with partners, sponsors, funders and community stakeholders
  • Participate in community events when appropriate

The implementation team handles day-to-day activities; the Interim Executive Director provides leadership, accountability, coordination and problem-solving.

Grant Administration – 18-Month Project

Provide administrative and program oversight for an 18-month grant-funded project.

  • Coordinate grant activities, timelines, milestones and deliverables
  • Track progress toward grant goals and performance measures
  • Ensure grant commitments and reporting requirements are completed on schedule
  • Maintain organized grant documentation and project records
  • Coordinate staff, contractors and partners involved in grant activities
  • Support preparation of required grant reports and documentation
  • Coordinate with financial support to ensure activities align with the approved grant budget and scope
  • Identify challenges and develop solutions to keep the project on track
Lead and Grow the Live Green Connecticut Pledge

The Live Green Connecticut Pledge represents one of our biggest opportunities for growth and statewide impact.

  • Lead continued expansion of the Pledge
  • Recruit businesses, workplaces, municipalities and community organizations
  • Develop collaborations that expand participation and statewide reach
  • Develop initiatives and activities with partners
  • Create opportunities for businesses, communities and residents to take measurable sustainability actions
  • Represent the Pledge with prospective partners and sponsors

Development, Fundraising, Partnerships & Sponsorships

Development and fundraising are important components of this position and an opportunity to help build Live Green Connecticut's long-term financial capacity.

  • Identify grant, foundation, corporate and other funding opportunities
  • Help develop and implement fundraising and development strategies
  • Support grant proposals and applications
  • Identify and cultivate prospective corporate sponsors and donors
  • Meet with prospective and existing sponsors, funders and stakeholders
  • Develop relationships with businesses, foundations and community partners
  • Develop sponsorship and fundraising opportunities connected to programs and events
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospective grants, sponsors and funding opportunities
  • Help develop the resources necessary to support organizational growth

All financial decisions and approvals remain with the Board.

Volunteer & Leadership Development
  • Recruit and engage volunteers
  • Identify meaningful volunteer roles
  • Coordinate volunteers across programs, events and outreach
  • Help recruit advisors and community leaders
  • Develop a network of people who can contribute expertise, relationships and leadership
Event Leadership & Logistics

This is a hands-on leadership position. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing event concepts with partners and the Board
  • Establishing timelines, agendas, budgets and logistics
  • Coordinating speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, vendors and partners
  • Recruiting and coordinating volunteers
  • Managing registration, communications, promotion and event-day needs
  • Attending events and overseeing successful execution
Organizational Management & Accountability
  • Maintain projects, contacts, deadlines and activities in Monday CRM
  • Establish and monitor milestones and deliverables
  • Delegate assignments and follow up on completion
  • Maintain organized project, grant and partner records
  • Improve organizational systems and procedures
  • Ensure commitments to partners and funders are completed on time
  • Help create systems that allow Live Green Connecticut to grow without becoming overly dependent on any one individual
Communications & Public Representation
  • Represent Live Green Connecticut with municipalities, businesses, funders, sponsors, nonprofits and community organizations
  • Participate in stakeholder and partner meetings
  • Develop strong professional relationships
  • Participate in public speaking, presentations and community events
  • Support organizational communications and social media
Who We're Looking For

Previous Executive Director experience is not required.

We are interested in candidates with demonstrated leadership experience in nonprofit organizations, business, government, community engagement, sustainability or related fields.

Experience with fundraising, development, grant management or sponsorship development is strongly preferred.

Experience in sustainability, clean energy, community development or nonprofit management is helpful but not required.

Technology

Candidates should be comfortable using—or able to quickly become proficient with—Microsoft Office 365, Monday CRM, Canva, Venngage, LinkedIn, Facebook and virtual collaboration platforms.

Schedule & Location

Approximately 10 hours per week. The position is primarily remote and offers flexibility, with weekly program meetings, monthly in-person Board meetings, periodic meetings at our Norwalk headquarters, partner meetings and occasional evening or weekend events.

Reliable transportation and periodic travel within Connecticut are required.

Compensation & Opportunity for Growth

This is a stipend-supported position with an initial six-month appointment and potential for extension.

The role includes responsibility for administration of an 18-month grant-funded project, creating the potential for continued responsibilities beyond the initial appointment based on performance, project and organizational needs, and mutual agreement.

At six months, the Board will review performance based on program outcomes, grant administration, development and fundraising progress, partnerships, organizational capacity and overall mutual fit.

There is an opportunity for growth in this position. Additional responsibilities, increased hours and increased compensation may become available based on organizational growth, new funding and demonstrated success in development and fundraising.
