Interim Dean – Sciences Division

Ventura County Community College District – Ventura College (Ventura CA), CA. The position is Academic Management under the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The interim dean will design, organize, deliver, supervise, evaluate and manage fiscal aspects of the Sciences Division’s student learning program. The assignment begins summer 2026 and may continue through June 30, 2027, with possible extension.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, direct, coordinate, supervise and evaluate the programs, personnel, operations, and activities of the division, ensuring compliance with the Education Code, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, district policies, and contractual agreements.
  • Assist in recruiting, selecting, developing, and evaluating classified and academic personnel within the division, planning staffing requirements and providing recommendations in line with Equal Employment Opportunity principles.
  • Direct development and implementation of class schedules and faculty assignments based on program and student needs and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Direct and implement sound fiscal planning, manage the division budget, supervise preparation and submission of the budget, and ensure timely implementation.
  • Develop and implement externally funded initiatives and plan resource allocations for facilities, equipment and technologies that support instructional programs.
  • Provide guidance and receive advice from faculty organizations on instructional matters and promote student participation in shared decision‑making.
  • Ensure all courses, curriculum and programs comply with applicable laws, regulations, district rules, education code and collective bargaining agreements; collaborate with staff to maintain course articulation with other institutions.
  • Ensure all student services programs comply with applicable laws, regulations and agreements; participate in shaping regional, statewide and national community college issues.
  • Develop and implement activities related to articulation with secondary schools and matriculation activities, including recruitment, admission, assessment, advisory and retention of students, and related student services such as community outreach, special student events, student government, graduation, health program management, orientation, needs assessments and related services.
  • Coordinate establishment and implementation of advisory committees; maintain liaisons with business and community representatives in planning and modifying division curriculum and programs.
  • Prepare timely and accurate instructional reports for various federal, state, district and college departments.
  • Promote and participate in the application of computer technology to division programs; use software to generate reports, correspondence and other written materials.
  • Stay abreast of emerging services, methodologies and technologies relevant to the division.
  • Serve on management councils and other college and district committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a master’s degree; and
  2. One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $11,854.00 per month to $15,885.25 per month. With a doctorate, add $548.04 per month. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Fringe benefits include family medical, dental, life, and vision insurance plans. The work year is 12 calendar months, providing 20 vacation days, two floating holidays, and an additional three days off during the winter break.
