Intellectual Property Associate Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Intellectual Property Associate Attorney in Des Moines, Iowa. This role involves working with experienced attorneys on complex intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, prosecution, litigation, and international issues. The candidate will engage directly with clients, gaining experience across the full lifecycle of intellectual property matters.

Duties

• Prepare, review, and file patents, trademarks, and copyright applications and related documents.
• Advise clients on intellectual property rights, protection, enforcement, and licensing.
• Conduct legal research and analysis on complex IP issues.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents for IP litigation.
• Communicate with co-counsel, clients, opposing counsel, and foreign associates.
• Assist with business development and client relationship initiatives.
• Collaborate with attorneys across various practice groups.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Iowa State Bar or ability to obtain admission promptly.
• Successful completion of the USPTO Patent Bar Exam.
• 1+ years of relevant intellectual property experience.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the Iowa State Bar.
• USPTO Patent Bar Exam completion.
