Insurance Defense Litigation Associate or Senior Associate

A well-established Texas litigation firm is seeking attorneys at multiple levels to join its Insurance Defense / General Liability practice in Dallas. The firm has a substantial Texas footprint and a longstanding defense practice representing insurers, insureds, businesses and corporate clients throughout the state. The group is open to attorneys ranging from second-year associates through highly experienced senior associates, with title and compensation calibrated to experience, litigation capability and overall fit. This is a strong opportunity for attorneys who want a broad civil-defense practice with meaningful case ownership, direct client interaction and substantial litigation responsibility.

The firm's defense practice handles a wide variety of matters arising from general liability and casualty insurance lines. Representative matters include: general liability and casualty defense, personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, products liability, construction accidents, construction defect, property damage, first-party insurance claims, insurance defense and coverage-related disputes, employer liability, toxic tort matters, commercial litigation and other complex civil-defense matters. The team represents both insurers and insured clients and is experienced in handling high-exposure cases from initial investigation through settlement, dispositive motion practice and trial. The firm is particularly known for hands-on litigation. Attorneys are expected to develop strong case strategy, communicate directly with clients and carriers, and take meaningful responsibility for the matters they handle.

The role operates on a hybrid model with approximately three days per week in office. The firm does not maintain a rigid one-size-fits-all billable target for this opening; expectations are based more broadly on productivity, contribution, experience level and performance. Base Salary: $110,000–$185,000, depending on experience, litigation background and level. In addition to base salary, the firm offers a highly competitive performance-based bonus structure, with strong-performing attorneys commonly earning approximately $50,000–$60,000 in annual bonus compensation. Senior candidates with substantial litigation experience will be considered toward the upper end of the range.

Responsibilities may include managing a portfolio of active litigation matters, evaluating liability, damages and case exposure, developing case strategy, drafting answers, pleadings, motions and substantive briefs, managing written discovery and document production, taking and defending depositions, handling expert discovery and expert strategy, preparing for and attending hearings, mediations and court conferences, negotiating settlements, preparing cases for arbitration and trial, conducting legal research and drafting litigation analyses, preparing status reports and evaluations for insurers and corporate clients, communicating directly with adjusters, insureds, opposing counsel and clients, supervising junior attorneys and support staff where appropriate, and taking an increasingly independent role in hearings, depositions, mediation and trial strategy.

Ideal background includes approximately 2–25 years of litigation experience in insurance defense, general liability, personal injury defense, premises liability, products liability, construction litigation, construction defect, transportation litigation, wrongful death, property damage, first-party insurance litigation, commercial litigation and broader civil defense. J.D. from an accredited law school, active and in-good-standing Texas Bar admission, strong written advocacy and legal research skills, experience handling discovery and substantive motion practice, strong client-management and communication skills, ability to independently manage deadlines and active matters, deposition and hearing experience strongly preferred at the mid- and senior levels, and trial experience is highly valued for more senior candidates.
