Responsibilities

  • Independently handle civil litigation and insurance defense files from inception to resolution, with appropriate partner support.
  • Take and defend depositions; attend court hearings, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Prepare high-quality pleadings, motions, discovery, and substantive legal research.
  • Develop defense strategies, manage discovery, and negotiate settlements.
  • Maintain direct, professional contact with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and experts.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
  • 3–5 years of civil litigation experience, with a strong preference for insurance defense.
  • Demonstrated experience taking/defending depositions, arguing motions, and managing written discovery.
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload from inception to resolution.
  • Familiarity with billable hour targets, task-based billing, and insurance carrier reporting guidelines.
  • Exceptional legal writing, research, and negotiation skills, with a track record of effective client communication.
