Salary: Following the HVEA Salary Guide, starting at $64,730

Reports To: Building principal or other appropriately certified administrator as designated by the superintendent
Job Goal: The Basic Skills Teacher will conduct an instructional program for those students encountering difficulty mastering the basic skills.
Performance Responsibilities
In order to fulfill his/her professional responsibilities the BASIC SKILLS TEACHER shall:
- Teach the basic skills (reading and/or mathematics) in accordance with grade level assignment and the Annual Basic Skills Improvement Program.
- Prepare daily lesson plans.
- Administer new student placement tests as necessary.
- Be responsible for student growth in the basic skills.
- Establish positive teacher-student relations.
- Establish a social-emotional climate that is conducive to learning.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Plan programs meeting the varying needs and abilities of the students.
- Employ techniques of instruction that achieve the stated objectives.
- Maintain open communication with parents.
- Work cooperatively with other members of the staff.
- Evaluate students' academic growth, keep mandated records, and prepare reports of progress.
- Instruct, advise, coach, supervise and/or direct extra-curricular activities, including but not limited to, such activities as interscholastic and intramural sports, music and theatrical programs, publications, student government, and student clubs.
