MTSS / Section 31a Coordinator

The MTSS / Section 31a Coordinator provides leadership, coaching, and administrative oversight to ensure all students reach academic and behavioral proficiency. This role focuses on implementing Michigan's MTSS framework to support students identified as eligible under Section 31a At-Risk criteria. The Coordinator works directly with instructional staff and administrators to analyze data, implement evidence-based interventions, and ensure strict compliance with state funding guidelines.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Framework leadership: Oversee the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.
  • Compliance management: Ensure all initiatives, staff allocations, and student resources strictly adhere to Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Section 31a legislative guidelines.
  • Data synthesis: Coordinate universal screening schedules and lead data teams to identify student needs, track progress, and evaluate intervention effectiveness.
  • Reporting accountability: Collect, organize, and submit data required for the annual MDE Section 31a Annual Program & Fiscal Report (APFR) and district MICIP cycles.
  • Instructional coaching: Provide ongoing professional development and side-by-side coaching to teachers on Tier 1 differentiation and Tier 2/3 interventions.
  • Fidelity monitoring: Conduct regular walkthroughs and audits to guarantee intervention programs are delivered with high structural fidelity.
  • Whole-child collaboration: Partner with counselors, social workers, and families to address attendance, behavioral barriers, and medical needs funded under Section 31a.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan School Administrator Certificate.
  • Education: Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 35 years of successful K-12 teaching, interventionist, or instructional coaching experience.
  • Technical skills: Deep familiarity with the Michigan Continuous School Improvement Process (MICIP), MiDataHub, and standard student information systems.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based literacy/math interventions, positive behavioral interventions (PBIS), and trauma-informed practices.
