Instructional Assistant
Reports To: Elementary Building Principal, and Central Office Administration as necessary
Location: Three Fires Elementary School
Hours: 23 hrs/wk, Monday-Thursday (8:40 a.m. - 2:55 p.m.)
Union Affiliation: HESPA
Duration: Ten (10) months: First day of school for students - Last day of school for students.
Wages: Per HESPA Master Agreement
Responsibilities:
- Provide small group instruction for students through guided reading and literacy groups
- Maintain and update records on students as required by the government
- Work in coordination with classroom teachers in monitoring, reinforcing and evaluating student performance
- Maintain and update the Monitoring Notebook for state audit
- Respond to inquiries from auditors during State of Michigan grant audit
- Attend continuous, intensive professional development within and outside of the district
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma (or equivalent); and must meet one of the following requirements:
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
- Obtain an Associate's Degree (or higher); or
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and mathematics or
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
- ETS ParaPro Assessment. A passing score of 460 is required.
- Michigan Test for Teacher Certification - Basic Skills (MTTC) A passing score on the Basic Skills Test MTTC is required.
- SAT (taken on or after March 5, 2016) - Scores on the following sections are required:
- Evidence-based Reading & Writing - 480
- Mathematics - 530 OR
- Reading - 22
- Combined English/Writing - 22
- Mathematics - 22 OR
- Reading - 1108
- Writing - 1129
- Mathematics - 1116 OR
- Reading for Information (Level 4 minimum)
- Applied Mathematics (Level 4 minimum) and
- Writing (Level 3 minimum) BEFORE June 1, 2017 will still meet the state requirements.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.
