Instructional Assistant - Special Education
The Special Education Instructional Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students with disabilities in both classroom and individual settings. Working under the direction of a certified special education teacher, the instructional assistant helps students achieve academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals, while promoting independence and inclusion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and instructional plans.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group academic support.
- Reinforce lessons and learning activities using teacher-directed instructional strategies.
- Support students with assignments and assessments.
- Assist students with daily living skills, including feeding, toileting, dressing, and mobility, when required.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation.
- Implement positive behavior support strategies and behavior intervention plans.
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment.
- Supervise students during classroom transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
- Prepare instructional materials, classroom displays, and adaptive learning resources.
- Operate classroom technology and assistive devices as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with school policies and applicable laws.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, therapists, administrators, and other members of a student's team as directed by their case manager.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and required training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Terms of employment: Non-exempt position. Ten month work year.
Salary to be established by the Board.
Salary schedule: Classroom Support Scale Ranges - CS7/01 CS7/02 CS7/03
