Secondary Functional Academics Instructional Aide (IA)

TheSecondaryFunctionalAcademicsInstructionalAideplaysavitalroleinsupportingstudentswithsignificantcognitive disabilitiesinacquiringfunctionalacademicskillsnecessaryforindependentlivingandpost-secondarytransition.Working closelywithspecialeducationteachersandrelatedserviceproviders,thispositionprovidesindividualizedassistance, facilitatessmallgroupinstruction,andimplementsspecializedinstructionalstrategiestomeetthediverselearningneeds ofstudentsinafunctionalacademicsclassroomsetting.

Student Support and Assistance

• Providedirectsupportandassistancetostudentswithsignificantcognitivedisabilitiesinaccessingthe curriculum,completingassignments,anddevelopingfunctionalacademicskills.
• Adaptinstructionalmaterialsandstrategiestomeettheindividualizededucationplan(IEP)goalsand objectivesofstudents,focusingonareassuchasreading,writing,math,andlifeskills.
• Assiststudentsinusingassistivetechnologydevicesandadaptivetoolstoenhancelearningand communication.

Small Group Instruction

• Facilitatesmallgroupinstructionsessionstoreinforceacademicconcepts,practicefunctionalskills,and promoteindependenceindailylivingactivities.
• Collaboratewiththespecialeducationteachertoplananddeliverdifferentiatedinstructionthatmeetsthe diverselearningneedsofstudentswithvaryingabilitiesandskilllevels.

Life Skills Development

• Supportstudentsindevelopingessentiallifeskills,suchaspersonalhygiene,householdmanagement, moneymanagement,andcommunitynavigation.
• Provideopportunitiesforstudentstopracticeandgeneralizeskillslearnedintheclassroomtoreal-life settings,includingschool,home,andcommunityenvironments.

Behavior Management and Social Skills Development

• Implementbehaviormanagementstrategiesandpositivebehaviorsupportstocreateasupportiveand structuredlearningenvironment.
• Supportstudentsindevelopingsocialskills,communicationskills,andself-regulationstrategiesthrough targetedinstruction,modeling,andreinforcement.

Data Collection and Progress Monitoring

• Collectdataonstudentprogressandperformanceinfunctionalacademicskills,lifeskills,and social-emotionaldevelopmentusingavarietyofassessmenttoolsandmethods.
• Maintainaccuraterecordsanddocumentationofstudentinterventions,accommodations,andprogress towardsIEPgoalsandobjectives.
• Communicateregularlywiththespecialeducationteacherandrelatedserviceproviderstoreviewdata, identifytrends,andmakedata-informeddecisionsaboutinstructionalplanningandsupportstrategies.

Collaborative Teamwork and Communication

• Workcollaborativelywiththespecialeducationteacher,relatedserviceproviders,andothersupportstaff toensureacohesiveandcoordinatedapproachtomeetingstudents'needs.
• Participateinteammeetings,caseconferences,andIEPmeetingstoreviewstudentprogress,discuss interventions,anddevelopappropriatesupports.
• Communicateregularlywithparentsandfamiliestoprovideupdatesonstudentprogress,behavior,and academicachievement,andsolicitinputonindividualizedsupportsandinterventions.

Qualifications

• Highschooldiplomaorequivalentrequired;Associate'sorBachelor'sdegreeinEducation,SpecialEducation, Psychology,orrelatedfieldpreferred.
• Previousexperienceworkingwithstudentswithsignificantcognitivedisabilitiesinafunctionalacademics classroomsetting,preferablyinahighschoolenvironment.
• Knowledgeofinstructionalstrategies,differentiationtechniques,andevidence-basedpracticesforsupporting studentswithsignificantdisabilitiesinacquiringfunctionalacademicskills.
• Abilitytocommunicateeffectivelyandcollaboratewithteachers,staff,students,andfamiliesfromdiversecultural andlinguisticbackgrounds.
• Patience,empathy,andagenuinecommitmenttosupportingtheacademic,social,andemotionaldevelopmentof studentswithsignificantdisabilities.

Salary and Benefits

Salaryandbenefitswillbecommensuratewithqualificationsandexperience,followingtheguidelinessetbytheschool corporation.

TheSecondaryFunctionalAcademicsInstructionalAidetypicallyworksinafunctionalacademicsclassroomsetting, collaboratingcloselywiththespecialeducationteacherandrelatedserviceproviders.Thispositioninvolvesproviding directsupporttostudentswithsignificantcognitivedisabilities,facilitatingsmallgroupinstruction,andimplementing specializedinstructionalstrategies.TheInstructionalAidemayalsoparticipateinprofessionaldevelopmentactivitiesand trainingsessionstoenhanceknowledgeandskillsinsupportingstudentswithsignificantdisabilities.
