Job Title: Washington Learning Academy Instructional Assistant
Primary Role
The Washington Learning Academy Instructional Assistant provides direct support to students in the alternative education setting, focusing on short-term interventions and behavioral success. The Assistant collaborates closely with the Teacher and staff to ensure consistent strategies and a supportive environment. Through patience, structure, and individualized support, the Instructional Assistant plays a vital role in helping students re-engage with learning and build skills for success.
Key Accountabilities
Job Specific Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily operations of the virtual program
  • Provide individualized and small group support to promote academic and behavioral success for students.
  • Deliver 1:1 assistance to students when required to reinforce learning goals and behavioral strategies.
  • Support the implementation of classroom routines, structure, and expectations that foster student growth.
  • Oversee High School and Middle School classrooms as assigned.

Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate with the teacher, counselors, and administrators to ensure consistency in interventions and programming for the virtual program.
  • Communicate student progress, concerns, and behavioral observations to the teacher and staff in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive and supportive interactions with students to build trust and encourage success.

  • Assist with managing student meltdowns and de-escalating challenging behaviors using approved strategies.
  • Model professionalism, patience, and respect in all student and staff interactions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, behaviors, and family information.
  • Participate in professional development and training to strengthen skills in student support and behavioral management.
