Inpatient Psychiatrist

Carilion Clinic is seeking a full-time Inpatient Psychiatrist to join their team at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA. This role involves providing quality psychiatric care to an acute, adult inpatient population and includes an academic appointment at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary integrated healthcare delivery system.

Practice Info

• Oversee clinical leadership of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Typical caseload of 10-12 patients daily with an average length of stay of 5-7 days.
• Practice opportunity includes inpatient (including ECT), outpatient, and medication management.
• Growing hospital consultation services provided to patients at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, a 146-bed acute-care medical center.
• Excellent support staff and a medical staff of over 300 physicians representing a broad range of specialists.

Responsibilities

• Assessment/evaluation/treatment of psychiatric illnesses.
• Psychiatric medication evaluation and management.
• Ordering diagnostic tests, medications, and other therapies and collaboration with consultants.
• Timely completion of medical record documentation in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory standards and guidelines.
• Coordination and continuation of the care for patients in adherence to state and federal guidelines and discharge planning.
• Serving as an on-call physician when scheduled as needed.
• Working with and supervising advanced practice providers.
• Working with learners, medical students, PA students, residents.

Compensation

• Min Starting Salary: $301,875
• Max Starting Salary: $450,000
• Eligible to participate in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
• Eligible to participate in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus compensation programs to improve the minimum salary.
• Historical averages of Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus earnings are included in the maximum salary.
• Sign on bonus.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited medical school.
• ABPN board certification or eligibility.
• Successful completion of accredited residency in Psychiatry.
• Skilled in interpersonal communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with patients and families.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
