Inpatient Palliative Physician Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional and compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dedicated Palliative Care team. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and families during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic and supportive care for patients with advanced illnesses, primarily in oncology, neurology (stroke, dementia, etc.), pulmonary (COPD, respiratory failure, etc.), and gastrointestinal diseases.


• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team focused on improving quality of life and managing symptoms.

You Can Expect

• 8:00 – 5:00pm Monday - Friday


• 6 – 10 patients per day, mix of new admits and follow-up patients


• 2 Physicians and 4 APPs


• Collaborate with families, patients, social workers, and care teams across the system


• Call – 1:4 one weekend a month and one weekday a week; calls are usually taken from home but may require occasional in-person visits


• Robust 2-3 month orientation process

• Experience with disease process


• Strong communication skills


• Experience with symptom management


• End of life care


• Advanced care planning

Qualifications

Required Education: Masters Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant School.

Required Certifications and Licensures: Current licensure by the State of Virginia as a Physician Assistant; ACLS (required only for LFM).

Experience: Minimum of two (2+) years of progressive experience in area of specialization.
