Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Innovation Counsel to join their Practice Innovation team in Reston. This role involves advancing practice-specific initiatives to maximize the value of innovation technologies and practices. The position requires collaboration with practice group leadership and other teams to drive best practices in legal technology adoption.

Duties

  • Support legal technology adoption initiatives impacting practice groups.
  • Design and prepare playbooks for best practices in innovation technologies.
  • Organize presentations, status reports, and executive briefings.
  • Collaborate with leadership in prioritizing requests and initiatives.
  • Work with innovation teams to develop objectives and success metrics.
  • Analyze practice group workflows to identify improvement areas.
  • Drive legal technology pilots and continuous improvements.
  • Develop communication campaigns and change measurement processes.
  • Maintain practice group-specific resources and automate efforts.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of applicable experience in legal practice or technology adoption.
  • Active bar membership or registered in‑house counsel status.
  • Experience in cross‑functional projects involving legal technology teams.
  • Understanding of large law firm financial and work allocation processes.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate or non‑US equivalent.

Certifications

  • Active bar membership or registered in‑house counsel status.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and firm applications.
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with distributed systems and large law technologies.
  • Ability to leverage data for insights and storytelling.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
