- Analyze mainframe capacity, utilization, and performance trends using RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, MXG, SAS, Mainview, Systemware, and related reporting tools.
- Produce and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc performance and capacity reports to support operational decision-making and long-range planning.
- Interpret system data to identify bottlenecks, performance issues, and optimization opportunities involving CPU, memory, disk I/O, workload management, and coupling facility activity.
- Support workload analysis and tuning across z/OS environments, including WLM service classes, initiators, application environments, and job flow behavior.
- Review and maintain knowledge of LPAR configurations, processor capacity, memory constraints, channel configurations, and overall system architecture.
- Provide mainframe hardware support by coordinating with vendors and internal teams on microcode installation, hardware fixes, new device implementation, and maintaining current code levels on hardware management consoles.
- Assist with incident, problem, and change management activities through established IT service management processes, including ServiceNow and enterprise change procedures.
- Support software and configuration changes through established controls and deployment processes, including Endevor procedures and change governance standards.
- Use diagnostic and monitoring tools such as Strobe, Syslog, OPSLOG, SDSF, and TSO/E utilities to investigate system behavior, troubleshoot issues, and support root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, engineering, operations, and project teams to support service reliability, capacity planning, and mainframe modernization or expansion initiatives.
- Maintain familiarity with enterprise standards, reporting repositories, project tracking tools, and technical documentation sources required for the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience supporting IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS operations, performance analysis, or capacity planning.
- Working knowledge of mainframe performance and accounting data sources such as RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, or MXG.
- Experience using SAS or similar analytical tools to manipulate data, create reports, and perform trend analysis.
- Understanding of z/OS architecture, workload management concepts, and core system utilities including SDSF and TSO/E.
- Knowledge of incident, problem, and change management disciplines in an enterprise technology environment.
- Experience supporting or coordinating mainframe hardware activities, including maintenance, vendor engagement, or device-related changes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
