Information Systems TechnicianSalary Range: $40,839.50 - $79,509.82Information System Technician Distinguishing Characteristics Of Work:Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer or their designee and established standards, the Information System Technician is responsible for general technical work in the area of information technology, including computer repairs and upgrades, and provision of technical help to users. As needed, the Information System Technician also participates in providing technical support for the City Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Internet topology, and the provisioning of new technology.Essential Examples Of Duties:Provides technical support and training, via phone, email, remote assistance, and in person, related to computer systems, hardware, and software.Maintains and monitors inventory of computer hardware and software.Operates various computer systems and peripheral equipment such as multi-function printers, storage devices, USB cameras, and telecommunications hardware/software according to established procedures.Installs, configures, and troubleshoots operating systems, software, computer hardware, and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related devices.Serves as part of the IT team to assist users with routine hardware and software questions.Supports Network/Systems Administrator functions.Supports Applications Administrator functions.Performs other job-related functions as assigned.Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.Performs other duties, but are not limited to those duties assigned as necessary in response to the changing operational needs of the department.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:Must have considerable knowledge of computer systems as they pertain to the Information Technology Department.Possess a good working knowledge of the Computer Network and peripheral devices.Exercise good judgment in emergency situations.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees in other departments/divisions.Able to communicate courteously and tactfully with the general public, subordinates, and other employees.Possess good critical thinking skills and good communication skills to carryout oral and written instructions.Minimum Training And Experience:Applicant shall have a good working knowledge of Information Technology in general and of the Department's Operations.Information System Technician must have a minimum of two years paid work experience in a business/computer related field, during which the person shall have had at least six months experience in three of the following areas; a. Current Microsoft Windows Desktop platform: installation, configuration, and maintenance c. Current Microsoft Windows Server platform: installation, configuration, and maintenance d. Understanding of current Microsoft Office Suite e.
TCP/IP configuration, routing, troubleshooting, DHCP and WINS f. Internet topology design and system maintenanceOne year of college completed with a 2.5 GPA or better in a business or computer related field may be substituted for a year of paid work experience.Must pass a FDLE fingerprint-based background check. Must maintain FDLE certifications via periodic training and testing.
