This role operates industrial sewing equipment to assemble components or finished products according to established specifications, quality standards, and production goals. The Sewing Operator I works under general supervision and focuses on learning proper machine operation, quality requirements, and safe work practices.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Operate industrial sewing machines, including single needle machines, to assemble or sew components and products.Perform basic sewing tasks such as straight seams, curved seams, binding, and zipper setting according to work instructions.Operate binding machines without assistive aides once trained.Assist with sewing machine setup, including threading, needle changes, and basic adjustments.Perform minor machine adjustments and identify issues requiring maintenance support.Read and follow work orders, work instructions, and specification sheets.Conduct visual inspections of materials and finished products to ensure quality standards are met.Place scrap material in appropriate containers and document as required.Maintain a clean and organized work area.Assist with training legally blind individuals for remedial purposes or new sewing projects, as directed.Work in accordance with company safety, quality, and production standards.Perform other duties as assigned.Work under general supervision.QualificationsJOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDEEducation: High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferredExperience: Previous sewing or manufacturing experience preferred.Exposure to industrial sewing equipment is beneficial.Knowledge/Skills:Basic math skills.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Attention to detail and quality.Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with co workers and supervisors.Positive work attitude and willingness to learn.Ability to multitask in a production environment.Licenses/Certifications: N/ASUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESTotal Number of Employees Directly Supervising: 0Number of Subordinate Supervisors Reporting to Position: 0VISION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDECan be performed with or without assistive technology :Required to perform activities such as: preparing/analyzing data/figures; viewing a computer screen; reading; inspecting small objects for defects; using measuring devices; and/or assembling parts with close eye contact.X Required to perform activities such as: operating machinery and/or power tools at or within arm's reach; performing non repetitive tasks such as carpentry work or repairing machinery.X Required to review/inspect own assigned work, the work of others, or facilities or structures.Requires normal (or corrected to normal) vision/acuity :Required to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment such as forklifts."To improve the quality of life and provide inspiration and opportunity for people who are blind or visually impaired through employment, outreach, rehabilitation, education and research."Envisions Core Values are the authentic, unwavering principals that define and support our culture.IntegrityCuriosityPassionInitiativeTeamworkExcellenceCOMMENTSEnvision, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected status or characteristic.
