Picture your day starting with a safety huddle, then moving across the plant floor to inspect a coolant header, re-pack a valve, and blueprint a piping reroute that helps a robotic cell run smoother. Before the shift ends, you might rig and lift a pump skid, turn parts on a lathe to exact tolerances, and verify alignment on a high-speed CNC spindle. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, you’ll feel at home here.What you will doChampion safety: strictly follow OSHA standards and GM procedures in every task.Maintain, rebuild, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial equipment, including bearings, seals, motors, generators, compressors, engines, pumps, cylinders, gears, couplings, linkages, ball screws, CNC spindles, coolant/filtration systems, and combustion assemblies/valves.Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair plant piping systems for process and utilities.Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, solder, assemble, join, and install pipe, valves, and fittings.Interpret mechanical and assembly blueprints for conveyors, material handling, robotics, and other automation.Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vertical lifts, and cranes.Plan safe rigging operations by determining accurate load requirements.Set up and run conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders) to achieve specified dimensions and finishes.Fabricate punches, specialty tools, steel-rule tools, and T-sets to precise specifications.Plan fabrication steps using blueprints, sketches, or models to build tools or assemblies efficiently.Check finished work with precision instruments (calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, dial indicators) to confirm tolerances and ensure defect-free parts.Preferred experienceImplementation of planned maintenance programs and use of predictive technologies.Hands-on exposure to industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems.QualificationsSix (6) or more years of relevant Mechanical trade (Pipefitter) experience or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a Mechanical trade (Pipefitter).Minimum age of 18.Willingness to work flexibly across day, afternoon, or night shifts, with overtime on short notice including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.Current GM employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement: please contact your local HR/LR team for placement options.CompensationThis opening may be filled as a Journeyperson In Training (JIT) or a Journeyperson. JIT pay ranges from $37.78–$44.08; Journeyperson rate is $44.98.
