The Industrial Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and improving the performance, reliability, and productivity of metal slitting and related production equipment.
The Industrial Maintenance Technician will work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and management personnel to identify equipment issues, implement corrective actions, improve preventive maintenance programs, and support the installation and commissioning of new equipment. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, understands industrial automation and controls, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated production equipment.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on metal slitting lines, rewinders, material handling equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, compressors, and other manufacturing and facility equipment.
- Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring problems.
- Repair, replace, and maintain motors, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, belts, chains, rollers, pumps, valves, cylinders, and other mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems, including motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, relays, switches, contactors, control panels, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Assist with the installation, setup, testing, startup, and commissioning of new machinery, production equipment, and facility systems.
- Develop, improve, and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance procedures, schedules, checklists, and equipment maintenance records.
- Recommend and implement equipment modifications and process improvements designed to increase reliability, productivity, quality, efficiency, and workplace safety.
- Work closely with production personnel to identify equipment concerns and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance needs.
- Support troubleshooting and maintenance of metal slitting equipment, including slitter systems, knives, arbors, tension systems, recoilers, unwinders, and material handling systems.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), corrective action, and continuous improvement activities related to equipment failures, quality issues, and production downtime.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of repairs, preventive maintenance activities, parts used, equipment failures, and equipment history.
- Monitor and maintain an appropriate inventory of critical spare parts, components, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Coordinate with outside contractors, service providers, and equipment vendors for specialized repairs, inspections, installations, and maintenance projects.
- Read, interpret, and apply information from mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements, including proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Identify potential equipment and workplace safety hazards and take appropriate corrective action.
- Assist with facility maintenance, equipment upgrades, improvement projects, and other special projects as needed.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and training to maintenance and production employees when appropriate.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience
- 3–5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience working with metal processing, metal slitting, converting, coil handling, or similar heavy manufacturing equipment is preferred but not required.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with motors, VFDs, sensors, relays, contactors, switches, and industrial control systems.
- Experience working with PLC-controlled machinery and basic PLC troubleshooting is preferred.
- Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs is preferred.
