Performs highly responsible, skilled technical work in the maintenance, installation, modification, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and electronic instrumentation, equipment, and control systems used on water and wastewater treatment plants, lift/pumping stations, sand transfer plants, floodgate systems, and facilities. Works with high voltage. Installs/troubleshoots issues for electrical motors, pumps, panels, disconnects, generators, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starts, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Interprets drawings and schematics for troubleshooting electrical control circuits, live and isolated; identifies electrical hazards; applies proper knowledge/use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Interacts with management, staff, and the public to identify and resolve service needs; determines the amount of materials, supplies, equipment, and time needed to complete assigned work. Exercises independent judgment concerning equipment in service, during standby duty, or off-duty hours. Assignments are received verbally or in writing, and work is reviewed through observation of results obtained, conferences, and reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of electronic and heavy electrical equipment, industrial electrical and electronic control systems.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Two (2) or more years of experience working in a water and wastewater operations environment,
- Completion of an Industrial Electrician/Electrical Apprenticeship Program,
- Valid Palm Beach County or Florida's Electrician's License,
- VFD installation/programming experience, and
- Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)/Allen-Bradley PLC software.
