Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to business units on operations, regulatory requirements, government affairs, and other legal matters
- Research, analyze and interpret insurance laws and regulations
- Collaborate with outside counsel and industry contacts on regulatory and government affairs issues
- Monitor, track and report on emerging legislation and regulations
- Research and write memoranda and other legal documents
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements
- Collaboratively works with other members of the Legal team to achieve optimal results for our business clients
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- At least three years prior experience working for a law firm or in-house legal department
- A JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
- Ability to solve problems and to provide practical, risk-based advice
- Common sense, good judgment, and solution-oriented attitude toward legal issues
- Prior insurance experience preferred but not required
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to travel as needed
