Immigration Attorney PositionInternational House, a Charlotte based non-profit organization, is seeking to hire an Immigration Attorney to join our Immigration Law Clinic. The Clinic, currently staffed by two attorneys, one DOJ-accredited paralegal, and a legal clinic specialist, provides representation to refugees, asylees, and other low-income immigrants in family immigration and naturalization matters in the greater Charlotte-Mecklenburg region.Responsibilities:Represent eligible clients before US Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Immigration Court, and in federal and state courts in immigration-related casesConduct initial consultations, draft required forms, assemble cases for filingMonitor status of cases and communicate with USCIS and clients regarding statusWork collaboratively with other staff members to evaluate, troubleshoot, and monitor casesParticipate in weekly case conferences with supervising attorneyMaintain Clinic specific databases and perform necessary administrative tasks (including, but not limited to, Clinic calendar maintenance, tracking of important deadlines, USCIS interviews, court hearings, etc.)Assist with recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers and legal internsParticipate in administrative and logistical aspects of any events scheduled by the ClinicIn the absence of the supervising attorney, provide guidance and supervision to paid and volunteer staff in case representation mattersParticipate in development and public relations activities of Program with International House development and communications staffAct as a representative of International House and liaison to appropriate community partners, as neededParticipate and provide leadership in professional meetings, seminars, and associationsProvide outreach information to the international community and to agencies working with the international communityCoordinate with other related International House programs (e.g., Education)Assist in other administrative and program development duties.Qualifications:Bar admission required, with North Carolina Bar admission preferredExperience practicing immigration law preferred, but not requiredCommitted to the needs of the underserved immigrant community and passionate about immigrant rightsExperience working cross-culturally or with multiple ethnic groupsAttention to detail and strong analytical, writing, communication and organizational skillsExcellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff, clients, and other stakeholdersDemonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving and ability to exercise sound judgmentHighly resourceful team player, with the ability to also excel independentlyAbility to identify problems and develop creative solutions both independently and in cooperation with othersProven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and responseFluency in Spanish is preferred, but not required.How to Apply:To apply, please email the following to :(1) resume(2) detailed letter including:(a) your qualifications for the position,(b) why you are interested in this specific position and in International House, and(c) a description of your experience with immigrants and low-income people;(3) names and telephone numbers of three references.(4) school transcripts(5) writing samplePlease, no phone calls.
