Human Resources GeneralistThe Human Resources Generalist serves as a hands-on HR professional supporting a fast-paced, unionized Tier 1 automotive supplier. This position is responsible for supporting all areas of Human Resources, including employee relations, staffing, onboarding, training, benefits administration, policy administration, attendance management, performance management, compliance, employee engagement, and health and safety initiatives.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Employee RelationsProvide guidance regarding company policies, procedures, and employment-related concerns.Conduct employee counseling sessions and assist managers with corrective action processes.Investigate employee complaints, concerns, conflicts, and workplace issues while maintaining objectivity and confidentiality.Support retention initiatives and employee engagement programs.Assist employees in understanding benefits, leave programs, attendance policies, and company resources.Recruitment and StaffingCoordinate full cycle recruiting activities for hourly and entry-level positions.Post job openings and screen applicants.Conduct interviews and facilitate candidate selection processes.Coordinate pre-employment requirements including background checks, drug screens, and employment verification.Manage new hire onboarding and orientation processes.Participate in hiring events, job fairs, and recruiting initiatives.Performance ManagementGuide supervisors through performance improvement processes.Ensure consistent application of attendance, conduct, and performance standards.Monitor and track disciplinary actions.Support employee recognition programs.Assist with workforce productivity and engagement initiatives.Attendance and Leave AdministrationAdminister attendance management processes.Manage leave administration including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation coordination, military leave, bereavement leave, and other statutory leaves.Maintain accurate attendance and leave records.Coordinate return-to-work and transitional duty programs.Compliance and HR AdministrationEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records.Process employment status changes and HR documentation.Support audits related to employment practices, payroll, benefits, safety, and labor relations.Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and business information.Safety LeadershipDemonstrate commitment to safe work practices and regulatory compliance.Partner with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Operations, Maintenance, and leadership teams to improve workplace safety performance.Participate in safety committees, meetings, audits, and improvement initiatives.Promote employee involvement in safety programs and continuous improvement activities.ExperienceBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or related field preferred, but not requiredMinimum 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.Tier 1 automotive supplier experience strongly preferred.Experience supporting multi-shift operations highly preferred.Experience in a unionized environment preferred, but not requiredExposure to EHS programs and safety complianceExperience supporting or delivering employee training programsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of employment laws, HR practices, and employee relationsInvestigative, problem-solving and conflict resolution capabilities.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with high attention to detailProactive, self-directed, and results-orientedProficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and workforce management systems.Flexible schedule supporting a 24-hour, 5-day operation, including occasional off-shift, weekend, holiday, and emergency response coverage as needed.
