The Human Resources Director serves as the organization's HR leader and is responsible for developing and executing people strategies that support the company's growth, culture, and business objectives. Reporting to the President, this hands‑on role oversees all aspects of the human resources function, combining strategic partnership with day‑to‑day execution in a growing entrepreneurial environment. The Human Resources Director will build and maintain HR programs, policies, and processes that support organizational goals while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and an approachable resource for employees. The ideal candidate is a player‑coach who enjoys balancing strategic HR leadership with hands‑on responsibility across all facets of the employee lifecycle.

Responsibilities:
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, OFCCP).
- Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
- Conducts regular HR audits (handbooks, job descriptions, I-9 forms, wage/hour practices) to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Oversee leave administration, accommodations, workers' compensation, and unemployment claims.
- Coordinate with legal counsel and external advisors as needed.
HR Leadership & Business Partnership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the President and leadership team on organizational, employee, and workforce‑related matters.
- Align people strategies with business goals and organizational growth plans.
- Recommend and implement HR programs, policies, and best practices.
- Analyze workforce trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Manage external recruiting partners supporting contract and full‑time hiring, while leading full‑cycle recruitment as needed.
- Partner with hiring managers to define hiring needs, job descriptions, candidate profiles, and selection criteria.
- Manage pre‑employment processes, including background checks, employment verification, reference checks, and new hire documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all hiring and onboarding requirements, including completion and maintenance of I-9 forms and other employment records.
- Coordinate all onboarding activities, including offer letters, orientation programs, policy acknowledgments, system access, and new hire training.
Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns and workplace issues.
- Conduct investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
- Coach managers on employee performance, conduct, and workplace challenges.
- Foster a positive and engaged workplace culture.
Performance Management & Development
- Manage performance review and goal‑setting processes.
- Support leadership development and manager coaching.
- Assess training needs and facilitate employee development initiatives.
- Support succession planning and career development initiatives to strengthen organizational capability and employee retention.
- Assist with compensation benchmarking and salary administration.
- Support benefit plan administration and annual renewals.
- Provide recommendations regarding compensation and retention strategies.
HR Operations
- Maintain HR records, reporting, and employee documentation.
- Oversee HRIS, ATS, and related HR technology platforms.
- Ensure effective HR processes and operational efficiency.
What You Need:
- 10+ years of progressive human resources experience, including experience serving as the primary HR contact for an organization or division within a larger organization
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong employee relations and compliance background
- Full‑cycle recruiting experience
- Experience supporting leadership
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic HR leadership with hands‑on execution
Preferred
- SHRM, PHR, or HR Certification
- Experience in manufacturing, logistics, transportation, distribution, or other operational environments
- Experience building HR processes in a growing company
