HR Assistant ILocation: Birmingham, AL Contract- 6 Months (Part Time-10Hrs/week) Client- Southern Company Services.Position OverviewThe HR Assistant I is an entry-level role within the Human Resources department, providing essential administrative and operational support across core HR functions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring smooth HR operations, maintaining accurate employee records, and supporting recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and compliance activities.The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, customer-service focused, and capable of handling confidential information with professionalism.Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Onboarding SupportPost job openings and assist with resume screening.Schedule interviews and communicate with candidates.Prepare new hire paperwork and coordinate onboarding activities.Assist with orientation sessions and ensure completion of required documentation.Employee Records & DocumentationMaintain and update employee records in HR systems.Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of employee data.Prepare HR documents including: Offer lettersEmployment contractsPolicy documentationMaintain organized physical and electronic HR files.Benefits & Timekeeping AdministrationAssist employees with benefits enrollment and inquiries.Support administration of benefits programs.Manage timekeeping systems and track attendance.Address employee time and attendance questions.Employee Relations & CommunicationServe as a point of contact for routine HR-related inquiries.Assist in resolving basic employee concerns.Support distribution of internal HR communications and announcements.Reporting & ComplianceGenerate HR reports and track metrics such as: HeadcountTurnover ratesRecruitment statisticsAssist with compliance related to: EEOCFMLAADALabor laws and HR policiesTraining & Offboarding SupportCoordinate training logistics and track employee training progress.Support exit processes including: Scheduling exit interviewsCollecting company propertyProcessing termination documentationRequired QualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Coursework or degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.ExperiencePrior administrative or office support experience preferred.Entry-level HR experience is a plus but not required.Technical SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: WordExcelPowerPointFamiliarity with HR systems or databases preferred.Core CompetenciesStrong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational and multitasking abilitiesAttention to detail and data accuracyCustomer-service mindsetAbility to maintain confidentiality and discretionStrong interpersonal skills
