HR and Safety Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW

Iroquois Industrial Group is seeking an HR & Safety Manager to lead human resources and workplace safety across its operating companies. This position will partner with company leaders to recruit and retain employees, resolve employee relations issues, strengthen HR processes, and prevent workplace injuries.

The role combines daily HR support with active involvement in facility safety. The successful candidate will be comfortable coaching supervisors, handling confidential matters, conducting safety walkthroughs, and following corrective actions through completion. The position must be based on site in Watseka, IL or Detroit, MI and regularly support other IIG locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

HR Leadership and Employee Relations

· Serve as a primary HR resource for company leaders, supervisors, and employees across multiple locations.

· Develop and maintain employee handbooks, policies, and procedures; promote consistent application while addressing location-specific requirements.

· Lead employee relations investigations and advise managers on attendance, performance improvement, disciplinary actions, and separations.

· Coach supervisors on communication, employee development, conflict resolution, and fair treatment of employees.

· Monitor employment compliance, maintain confidential personnel records, and coordinate sensitive matters with leadership and legal counsel as appropriate.

Recruiting and HR Administration

· Coordinate recruiting for hourly and salaried positions, including job descriptions, sourcing, interviews, offers, and onboarding.

· Work with company leaders on staffing plans, retention efforts, succession planning, and employee training needs.

· Support benefits enrollment, leave administration, accommodations, and employee questions in coordination with service providers and leadership.

· Partner with payroll and accounting to maintain accurate employee changes, timekeeping practices, and supporting records.

· Coordinate performance reviews and compensation recommendations; maintain reliable HR systems and reporting.

Workplace Safety and Compliance

· Lead implementation and ongoing improvement of IIG safety programs, working with local leaders to establish clear responsibilities and consistent practices.

· Conduct routine facility inspections and job hazard assessments; prioritize risks, assign corrective actions, and verify completion.

· Maintain written safety programs covering applicable hazards such as machine guarding, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, material handling, and powered industrial trucks.

· Coordinate safety orientation, recurring training, emergency preparedness, and safety meetings across shifts; maintain training records.

· Investigate injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions; identify root causes and work with operations to prevent recurrence.

· Maintain OSHA records and required reports, monitor applicable safety requirements, and coordinate regulatory inspections with leadership.

· Address immediate hazards promptly, support stopping unsafe work, and escalate unresolved risks to company leadership.

Workers Compensation and Management Reporting

· Coordinate workers compensation claims with employees, supervisors, insurers, and medical providers; support appropriate return-to-work arrangements.

· Report HR and safety measures, including turnover, open positions, training completion, incidents, claims, and overdue corrective actions.

· Use trends to recommend practical improvements and review progress with company leaders.

· Support HR and safety integration for acquired businesses and perform other related duties as assigned.
