Job Title: HP-UX System Admin

Location – Remote in US

Duration – Permanent Employment

Job Description:

The HP-UX Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing HP-UX servers and related infrastructure. The role involves ensuring high availability, performance tuning, patching, backup/recovery, and supporting business-critical applications running on HP-UX.

Must Have Skills:

• Strong hands-on expertise in HP-UX system administration

• Experience with HP-UX server installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades

• Knowledge of LVM (Logical Volume Manager) and storage administration

• Proficiency in Unix shell scripting for automation and maintenance tasks

• Experience in performance monitoring and system tuning

• Backup and recovery administration (e.g., HP Data Protector, Ignite-UX)

• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

• Strong communication and documentation skills

Nice to have skills:

• Exposure to Linux/Unix variants (Red Hat, AIX, Solaris)

• Experience with cluster management (Serviceguard)

• Knowledge of virtualization (HP Integrity Virtual Machines, vPars)

• Familiarity with databases (Oracle, Sybase, etc.) hosted on HP-UX

• ITIL process knowledge (Incident, Change, Problem Management)

Job Descriptions:

• Install, configure, and maintain HP-UX servers and related hardware/software

• Apply system patches, security updates, and firmware upgrades

• Monitor server performance, availability, and capacity

• Tune systems for optimal application performance

• Manage file systems, disk partitions, and volume groups (LVM)

• Implement and monitor backup/recovery procedures

• Implement security hardening and ensure compliance with standards (HIPAA, ISO, etc.)

• Manage user accounts, roles, and access privileges

• Provide L2/L3 support for application and infrastructure issues

• Participate in on-call rotations and incident management

• Work with application teams, DBAs, and network admins for issue resolution

• Document system configurations, SOPs, and troubleshooting guide
