Title: Housing Specialist Supervisor (HPLP)
Location: New York City Metropolitan Area
Reports to: Assistant Director of Housing Services

Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Role Summary: The Housing Specialist Supervisor (HPLP) will be responsible for providing housing services to help clients understand and overcome personal or social issues affecting their housing. The Housing Specialist Supervisor will cooperate with staff across all work sites to develop service plans for clients to ensure permanent and stable housing and access to community sources. The Housing Specialist Supervisor will be encouraged to be cross-trained and understand the job functions within the Housing Department.
Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:
The job duties of the Housing Specialist Supervisor (HPLP) include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Providing supervision to Housing Specialists at their office site.
- Support the Assistant Director in overseeing the daily functions of a specific housing service site, ensuring smooth operations and creating a positive work environment and promoting a culture of excellence within the team.
- Collaborate and coordinate with Site Assistant Director with training of all new Housing Specialists.
- Provide mentorship to Housing Specialists, offering guidance, support, and expertise to foster their professional growth and ensure consistent high-quality performance within the team.
- Conduct employee supervisory coaching sessions and annual performance evaluations, while also offering recommendations for improvement initiatives.
- Support the Assistant Director in effectively overseeing caseloads during staff coverage or shortages, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks, maintaining quality standards, and providing necessary support to colleagues as needed.
- Refer complex employee development or disciplinary matters to the Assistant Director for further escalation.
- Efficiently manage a limited caseload, focusing on complex client cases requiring specialized knowledge or requiring supervisory intervention.
- Collaborate with program participants to develop service plans that correlate with resolving presenting problems and obstacles to maintaining housing stability.
- Assist in client intake, service planning, advocacy, and referral services in the absence of a case manager.
- Maintain bi-weekly or monthly contact with clients to follow up on service plans.
- Maintain records monitor case progress and enter case related information into LegalServer Database
- Conduct and/or participate in housing related activities and workshops.
- Work collaboratively with legal services staff to identify client readiness on legal proceedings.
- Enforce site rules and regulations to maintain compliance.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Time management and prioritization.
- Providing suggestions and recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or any other change of status for other employees.
- Performing general clerical duties.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.
- Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.
Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
- May at times be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays based on organizational needs, deadlines, or events.
Qualifications:
- MA/MS or equivalent in Administration, Finance, Human Relations, and/or Management, and one (1) or more year(s) of experience working as an administrative assistant at an executive level, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by homeless and special needs populations.
- Familiarity with casework and case management methodologies.

- Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills, with a detail-oriented and efficient approach.
- Demonstrated maturity, integrity, and sound judgment.
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
