This 3rd shift role focuses on maintaining clean, safe, and sanitized spaces throughout the hospital while delivering courteous and professional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.ResponsibilitiesProvide comprehensive cleaning support throughout the hospital, including patient rooms, discharge rooms, hallways, bathrooms, offices, and common areas.Change linens in patient and discharge rooms, ensuring all bedding is clean, properly placed, and ready for new occupants.Dust surfaces, sanitize high-touch areas, and ensure all assigned spaces meet hospital cleanliness and safety standards.Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in patient care areas, hallways, offices, and common spaces to maintain a clean and professional environment.Pull and dispose of trash from patient rooms, offices, bathrooms, and common areas in accordance with hospital procedures.Perform general custodial and housekeeping duties, including environmental services tasks such as disinfecting and sanitizing rooms and equipment.Support floor care activities, including buffing and other floor maintenance tasks, as needed and as skills allow.Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, meeting established time goals such as cleaning rooms within 30–45 minutes and maintaining assigned hallways.Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, visitors, and hospital staff, providing friendly and helpful customer service.Collaborate with team members and adapt to changing priorities, demonstrating flexibility to perform any housekeeping tasks needed by the department.Follow hospital policies and procedures related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control to help maintain a safe environment for all.Essential SkillsAt least 1 year of housekeeping or janitorial work experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment.Proven experience with general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing, vacuuming, and trash removal.Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact courteously and professionally with patients, visitors, and staff.Excellent communication skills to work effectively with co-workers and contribute positively to department culture.Ability to work a 3rd shift schedule from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.Comfort working in a hospital environment, including exposure to medical situations, equipment, and smells.Capability to meet time-based cleaning goals, such as cleaning rooms within 30–45 minutes and maintaining assigned hallways.Reliability, good attendance, and a positive attitude toward teamwork and departmental needs.Physical ability to perform housekeeping and custodial duties, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting as required by the role.Additional Skills & QualificationsFloor technician experience, including buffing and specialized floor care, is preferred but not required.Experience in environmental services (EVS) or hospital housekeeping is a plus.Background in hospitality, home care, or general labor roles involving cleaning and customer service is beneficial.Customer service–oriented mindset with a focus on helping others and maintaining a welcoming environment.Ability to adapt to different cleaning assignments and support various areas of the hospital as needed.No commercial driving license, DOT requirements, or formal certifications are needed for this position.This contract-to-hire opportunity offers a clear path to permanent employment with the hospital for individuals who demonstrate strong attendance, performance, and a positive attitude. Team members work with standard housekeeping and custodial equipment, including mops, brooms, vacuums, and floor buffers, and follow established procedures for sanitizing and environmental services.
The role requires practical, comfortable attire suitable for active cleaning work and adherence to hospital guidelines for safety and professionalism.This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.
