Hospitalist – Step-Down Unit

MidState Medical Center, an affiliate of Hartford HealthCare, is seeking a Hospitalist – Step-Down Unit Physician to join their team in Meriden, CT. The provider will be responsible for the comprehensive medical management of adult patients requiring intermediate-level care in the Step-Down Unit or Progressive Care Unit. Practice Info

• 156 bed community hospital, located in Meriden, CT
• Hospital-based clinical practice within a Step-Down Unit/Progressive Care Unit
• Frequent interaction with critically ill and medically complex patients

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage hospitalized adult patients requiring step-down level of care
• Admit patients from the Emergency Department, ICU transfers, direct admissions, and outside facilities as appropriate
• Provide daily patient assessments, treatment planning, and medical management
• Monitor patients with complex medical conditions requiring enhanced observation, telemetry, non-invasive respiratory support, or frequent clinical reassessment
• Manage patients with conditions including, but not limited to sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac arrhythmias, post-procedural/post-operative monitoring, stroke, metabolic/endocrine disorders, and gastrointestinal bleeding
• Recognize clinical deterioration and facilitate timely transfer to the ICU when indicated
• Coordinate consultations with specialty services and implement recommendations
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care coordination meetings, and quality improvement initiatives

Compensation

• This is a salaried position
• Actual pay will be determined based on qualifications, location, internal equity, and other factors that may include hire bonuses, incentive pay plans, loan repayment, administrative stipends, or relocation

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the applicable state
• Current DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing privileges
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Prior 5-year hospital medicine experience (Preferred)
• Experience managing progressive care, telemetry, or intermediate-care patients (Preferred)
• Demonstrated proficiency in acute care medicine and management of medically complex hospitalized patients (Preferred)
