Hospitalist - Step-Down Unit

Hartford HealthCare is seeking a dedicated Hospitalist for the Step-Down Unit at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, Connecticut. In this role, you will provide comprehensive medical management for adult patients requiring intermediate-level care in the Progressive Care Unit. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver evidence-based inpatient care and ensure smooth care transitions.

Practice Info

• MidState Medical Center is a 156-bed community hospital located in Meriden, CT
• Hospital-based clinical practice within a Step-Down Unit and Progressive Care Unit
• Frequent interaction with critically ill and medically complex patients
• Reports to the Medical Director of Hospital Medicine

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage hospitalized adult patients requiring step-down level of care
• Admit patients from the Emergency Department, ICU transfers, direct admissions, and outside facilities as appropriate
• Provide daily patient assessments, treatment planning, and medical management
• Monitor patients with complex medical conditions requiring enhanced observation, telemetry, non-invasive respiratory support, or frequent clinical reassessment
• Recognize clinical deterioration and facilitate timely transfer to the ICU when indicated
• Coordinate consultations with specialty services and implement recommendations
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care coordination meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the applicable state
• Current DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing privileges
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Preferred: Prior 5-year hospital medicine experience
• Preferred: Experience managing progressive care, telemetry, or intermediate-care patients
• Preferred: Demonstrated proficiency in acute care medicine and management of medically complex hospitalized patients
