WellMed, part of the Optum family of businesses, is seeking a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our Northeast Pod in San Antonio, TX. Optum is a clinician‑led care organization that is changing the way clinicians work and live.
Position Highlights
- Daytime, Monday - Friday
- Be a part of a collaborative and comprehensive health care team
- 100% of patients will have a WellMed employed, contracted or affiliated PCP
- Our model is designed to provide the most efficient, comprehensive, and proven care techniques to treat the whole patient - physically, mentally, and socially
- "Quality vs. Quantity Model" - Typically census per hospitalist is 10 to 13 patients per day
- Patient panel is limited to geriatrics with Medicare Advantage coverage
- Bonus incentives are based on quality metrics

General Overview
In 2011, WellMed partnered with Optum to provide care to patients across Texas and Florida. WellMed is a network of doctors, specialists and other medical professionals that specialize in providing care for more than 1 million older adults with over 16,000 doctors' offices. We focus on preventative health care and strive to change the face of health care for seniors.

Required Qualifications
- Certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Additional Acute Care Certification is required
- Current Licensure through the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners OR Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas State Medical Board
- Valid DEA license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment
- 1+ year of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Comfortable managing a primarily Medicare‑aged patient population
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency
- A working understanding and support of a managed care environment
Compensation Information
The compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $109,500 - $164,000. Total cash compensation includes base pay and bonus and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role. Benefits include a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
